AITS SENSITIZES ROMA GIRLS STUDENTS

With the increased access to the Internet among young people in our country and worldwide, Advocacy for Innovation and Technology in Schools (AITS) conducted a sensitization campaign on 17 March 2023 to raise awareness on the effective use of innovation and technology for learning.
The participating students were drawn from Grade 10, 11 and 12 and these are students who take Computer Studies as their optional subject.

Campaign Facilitator Ms Beverly Nzala opened the session with a query on how much access students have to technology and the internet. The response came in the affirmative that they do have access.
The session looked at the benefits of innovation and technology especially on the improvements they have brought to everyday life and business. There negative use were also discussed especially the dangers posed to young people such as cyber bullying and other harmful traits in cyberspace that endanger their lives. The session concluded with sharing of good practices when in cyberspace with an emphasis of one taking control of Internet access to improve in academics than developing harmful habits.
The last session was conducted by AITS Executive Director Mr Likezo E. Nyambe who recommended a number of platforms and websites such as Wikipedia, ChatGPT, Code Academy and Scratch among them to enhance their learning. Practical demonstrations were done to see how students can use the recommended platforms for learning.
Career and Guidance Teacher Mrs Pamela Chirambo urged the students to utilize the recommended platforms in order to improve their performance in school.
AITS Board Director for Human Resource and Talent Development Mr George Muma Bwalya thanked the students for their participation and the school management for allowing the organisation to have an opportunity to share on innovation and technology.
