CAREER GUIDANCE TALK IN ICT AT MUNALI GIRLS

Advocacy for Innovation and Technology in Schools (AITS) facilitated a career guidance talk on Thursday, 26 September 2024 at Munali Girls Secondary School in Lusaka. The program was aimed at giving an opportunity for career considerations in ICT for the Grade 11 class that does Computer Studies as their optional subject.The talk had 50 students from 11F.
The talk was given by Dr. Serah Beza Mbewe who is Director of ICT at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University and Vice President of the Information and Communication Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ).



Dr. Mbewe shared her own journey with the girls starting from her primary school in Chingola, her senior secondary education at David Kaunda National Technical School up to her time at the Copperbelt University (CBU) where she studied Computer Science. She said through dedication and hardwork she did her masters degree in computer science and did her doctorate in Business Development specialized in ICT.
She urged the girls to have the ability to set now what they want to achieve in life. She said they should fight for what they want now.
“You are in time where you can do anything because of the Internet. Be innovative, there are opportunities in every space. Do something you are passionate about” she said.
She urged the girls considering a career in ICT to check and follow the programs of Zambian female led groups like Women In Tech (WIN) and Women Coders.
AITS Executive Director Mr. Likezo E. Nyambe thanked the girls for participating in the talk and urged those considering a career in ICT to follow their passion.
